Description

A 2- Day course offering the knowledge and skills to become a paediatric first aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of Infants and Children. Intended for those already working, or preparing to work in the industry.

Meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Assessed by small amount of work being completed via distance learning on our learning portal, then attending the centre to complete a small multi-choice examination based on the knowledge, and also some practical assessments.

Valid for a period of 3-years.

Topics Include:

  • Understand the Roles and Responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider.
  • Be able to Assess an Emergency Situation Safely.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid for an Infant and a Child who are Un-Responsive.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid for an Infant and a Child who are Choking.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid to an Infant and a Child with External Bleeding.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant and a Child with Bites, Stings and Minor Injuries.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid to an Infant and a Child with Suspected Injuries to Bones, Muscles and Joints.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid to an Infant and a Child with Suspected Head and Spinal Injuries.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant or a Child with Conditions Affecting the Eyes, Ears and Nose.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant or Child with an Acute Medical Condition or Sudden Illness.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant or Child who is Experiencing Extremes of Body Temperature.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant or Child who has Sustained an Electric Shock.
  • Know how to Provide First Aid to an Infant or Child with Burns and Scalds.
  • Know how to provide First Aid to an Infant or Child with Suspected Poisoning.
  • Be able to Provide First Aid to an Infant or Child with Anaphylaxis.

Prerequisites

Must be 16 years of age or over on the date of certification, and must have a good standard of English.
